GENESIS EFFECT

The Genesis Effect is an evolving artistic photographic treatment developed by Edward Murphy as an extension of his selective-monochrome work. Inspired by the subtle blue-gray and silver tonal shifts he observed in automotive paint, the method introduces restrained chromatic undertones into otherwise near-neutral areas, while refining tonal transitions and preserving the photograph’s original geometry and carefully chosen color accents. Each study places the original photograph beside its Genesis Effect treatment, inviting viewers to compare changes in atmosphere, depth, and visual flow. All works begin with Murphy’s original photography and remain photographic edits of his captured scenes.

The Genesis Effect extends Edward Murphy’s selective-monochrome photography. Side-by-side comparisons show how restrained color, tonal transitions, and carefully preserved details change the atmosphere of an original photograph.

Sunken Meadow State Park, Long Island

A single vivid orange cone anchors a line of monochrome cones and a selectively colored field. Subtle blue-gray in neutral grass and shadows creates a quieter counterpoint to the existing orange and sunset.

One red stripe remains the only vivid accent on the flag. Cool near-neutral tones refine the storm clouds and the sculptural fence, preserving the original beach scene.

Long Island

An empty boardwalk and repeated benches lead toward the horizon. Restrained cool-gray tonal changes give the existing railings and planks a different atmospheric character.
